Otra vez

I don't have a tattoo, but if I did, the words "otra vez"' on my wrist in a cool script would be my choice. Again. When life knocks you down, get back up. When a hope gets deferred, keep at it. Author Stephen McCranie writes, '“The master has failed more times than the beginner has even tried.” In the spirit of trying, I've decided to start blogging after an almost ten year hiatus.

Many things have shifted:

  • second marriage
  • move to Sonoma county (four different houses)
  • eight years of solid Al-Anon membership and work with a sponsor
  • eight years of full-time high school Spanish teaching
  • two years as a Bootleg Honeys band member
  • foster-adopting a seven-year-old girl(now ten)

Writing has naturally floated to the forefront given time constraints that full-time work and parenting impose. It's quicker composing a poem than a song, and booking, preparing, and getting to a gig requires more effort than Dave and I have been able to muster on a regular basis. Creativity and life find a way like famous Mexican author Octavio Paz writes in one of his haikus:

Hecho de aire             Forged from air

entre pinos y rocas   between pine trees and boulders

brota el poema.         a poem springs forth

In this blogging era, I plan to share my experience, strength, and hope in the aforementioned areas, especially by chronicling any attempts at publishing, performing, and presenting. Hopefully, it will help me track and celebrate my attempts as well as encourage others to do the same.
